Spring spirit continues into May

By Sean Delaney

As the snow gives way to warmer days, many residents across Toronto take part in the annual spring cleanup through the City’s Clean Toronto Together initiative. While the official dates fall in late April, the spirit of the program does not end there—in communities like Emery, it is just getting started.

May is a perfect time for neighbours, families, and local groups to carry that momentum forward. With parks, sidewalks, and green spaces now fully visible after the winter months, it becomes a great opportunity to step outside and give back in a simple but meaningful way.

Across Ward 7, many cleanups happen informally. A few neighbours getting together for an hour, a local business tidying up its storefront, or families bringing a bag along on a walk—it all adds up. These small efforts help keep Emery looking welcoming and cared for.

Organizing a cleanup is easier than many people think. The City of Toronto offers guidance on choosing a location, gathering volunteers, and arranging proper waste disposal.

For families, it is a great way to teach kids about community pride. For businesses, it is a chance to lead by example. And for everyone, it is a reminder that keeping Emery clean is a shared effort.

As we move through spring, consider taking part this May—every little bit helps.
