Alright, forgive me, but I’m already getting those feels—you know, the ones when the CNE is around the corner and you realize school’s sneaking up on us. Still, who am I kidding? The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) is the highlight of Toronto summers, and this year it runs from August 15 to September 1. That’s 18 full days of rides, eats, live shows, and pure Ex magic at Exhibition Place.

From the moment you pass through the gates of the Midway, it’s impossible not to grin. There’s everything from nostalgic Ferris wheels and carousel rides to a brand-new thrill tower that’s already making waves. Want a calmer pace? Pop into the kiddie zone—it’s perfect for families and young adventurers.

And let’s talk food—the Ex is practically synonymous with culinary courage. The Food Building is legendary, filled with deep-fried oddities and international cuisine reflecting our city’s diversity. Plus, new this year: the Food Truck Frenzy and Craft Beer Fest are back in full swing. Hello, cheat day.

When the evening rolls in, the Bandshell lights up with live acts—there’s usually something for everyone. Add neon-lit shows like SuperDogs, high-wire performances, circus acts, and you’ve got the perfect mix of entertainment.

Now, the crown jewel: the Canadian International Air Show, happening Labour Day weekend, August 30 to September 1, each day from 12 to 3:40 p.m. Expect flybys from the Snowbirds, CF-18 Hornets, and the elite F-35 team—all set against that iconic Toronto skyline.

But the Ex isn’t just about thrills. There’s innovation and learning too. The Gaming Garage returns with e-sports tournaments, tech exhibits, and robot battles. The Arts, Crafts & Hobbies Pavilion is packed with handmade goods and creative demos—perfect for gift shopping or inspiration. Don’t miss the International Pavilion either, with unique wares from around the world.

Accessibility Day and Seniors Day are also highlights, offering a more relaxed pace and tailored programming so everyone can join in the fun. Whether you’re catching the lantern parade at night or wandering the Garden Show, there’s always something surprising around the corner.

Summer’s not over yet, Toronto—and I’ll be the one walking through the gates, slushie in hand, soaking up every last moment. See you at the Ex?
