Councillor’s Corner - November 2025

Dear Resident,

November brings with its colder days a time for reflection. On Remembrance Day, we illuminate and honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice during the First World War. I was grateful to take part in the Emery Village BIA’s annual commemoration at the war memorial in Joseph Bannon park, where I laid a ceremonial wreath on behalf of the City of Toronto.

At November’s City Council meeting, we received an update on the city’s Winter Maintenance Review. I’m glad to see multiple departments such as parking enforcement and the TTC synergizing and that technology is being better mobilized to improve service. While some concerns may be addressed, I believe that the conversation must also include how to better make use of workers’ time with flexibility and efficiency. Given how unpredictable weather has become, and the incredible need and cost of other services such as road repairs, we must find a way to make our services work better for us as a city, and to get more out of them. You can watch my comments in the chamber on my YouTube channel.

Also, a motion was adopted introducing new supports for homeowners to protect their homes from flooding. For more information, please see the city’s website or contact my office.

Lastly, the Vacant Homes Tax portal is open. Homeowners must declare their property’s 2025 occupancy status by April 30, 2026. This can be done through the online declaration portal at toronto.ca/VacantHomeTax, by calling 311, or by visiting a Tax and Utility counter at City Hall. If you have further questions or require assistance, please contact my office.
