Emery Village BIA Executive Director's Message - Dec 2021

Emery Village BIA Executive Director’s message

As this year comes to an end, the Emery Village BIA would like to wish everyone in the community a happy, healthy holiday season and a happy new year. We know that this year has been hard with several adjustments due to COVID-19 restrictions. As we all work together to get back to a new normal, we thank you for all of your help and consideration in following social distancing rules to keep everyone safe. This has been a community effort and we look forward to continuing to support you.

On Nov. 9, Toronto City Council approved a 15 percent reduction in the tax rate for small businesses that meet the eligibility criteria for the new subclass.

The full report, Implementing a Small Business Property Tax Subclass, is available online here: app.toronto.ca/tmmis/viewAgendaItemHistory.do?item=2021.EX27.7

The Commercial Space Rehabilitation Grant Program is also now accepting applications. This grant offers matching funding of 50 percent to commercial business operators and owners of storefronts that are vacant (or, in certain limited circumstances, at risk of becoming vacant) to undertake interior improvements, assisting businesses to release space impacted by COVID-19. The Emery BIA encourages eligible businesses to apply. We are available to guide you through the application form and encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible.

Throughout the holidays and into the new year, the Emery Village BIA is continuing to organize on-site mobile vaccination clinics for interested businesses in the area with the help of the City of Toronto. The on-site mobile clinic can come directly to your business and vaccinate any staff (first or second dose). Businesses need to have a small space with two chairs for the vaccination, and a separate chair to monitor the vaccinated person for 15 minutes after each dose.

To sign up for this free opportunity, view the flyer in the newspaper or visit our website:

We wish you the best for the end of 2021 and the start of 2022.

Sincerely,

Sandra Farina

Executive Director
