Painting for reconciliation

By Shannon Delmarco

Every once in a while, a moment in our community deserves a little extra recognition, even if it reaches us a little later. On October 28th, a wonderful group of seniors gathered at Woodview Park Library, under the welcoming support of Branch Manager Diana Rothbauer, to take part in a special activity leading up to Truth and Reconciliation Day.

The group spent the afternoon painting their own orange shirts — a quiet, thoughtful way to honour the children and families affected by residential schools. It was simple, heartfelt, and the kind of gathering that reminds us how important our community spaces truly are.

We want to celebrate these seniors for coming together, taking part, and continuing to show us what community looks like. Their enthusiasm and spirit always brighten the neighbourhood, and it’s moments like this that make Emery Village such a warm and caring place.

A big thank-you goes out to Diana and her team for creating a space where seniors feel welcome, supported, and connected. And high-fives to everyone who took part in the painting session — your participation matters, and we’re proud to share this moment with the community.
