Dear 2021 graduating class of 2021

Dear 2021 graduating class of 2021

It is an honour and a privilege to celebrate all of your achievements. This past year and a half has been like no other. I am so proud of each and every one of you. Through hard work, determination and perseverance, you achieved your goals and overcame all obstacles that were put in front of you.

Your successes are dependent in part on the support and involvement that you received by many who are celebrating with you. Please help me congratulate your family, your teachers, and your friends, who have helped you along your journey.

To the graduates, many of you have spent years fostering friendships with your peers. As you start writing the next chapter of your lives, things may seem radically different and quite intimidating at first. However, you will meet new people, have new experiences and partake in many new adventures. My advice is to make mistakes. These mistakes should be the kind of mistakes that you learn from. Overcome every obstacle that you face with grace and humility. Never stop learning. Participate, volunteer and find your passion. Learn your strengths and overcome your fears. Enjoy all that life has to offer and leave a legacy. Speak for the voiceless, climate change is real and fight for our tomorrow.

Always remember to use the virtues that you were taught at the TCDSB and bring them with you on your journey. Be ambitious, selfless and humble.

Malala Youssef said, “When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful.”

TCDSB graduates, be that voice. We cannot wait to hear it.

Yours in partnership,

Ida Li Preti, Trustee, Ward 3
