From a long-standing Latin American shopping destination to a growing automotive cluster, the Milvan Rumike stop opens onto a busy stretch of Finch Avenue West
Step off Line 6 Finch West at Milvan Rumike and the neighbourhood quickly rewards a closer look. On this month’s Next Stop Emery route, we are travelling east from Milvan Drive on the north side of Finch Avenue West and Rumike Road on the south, where restaurants, personal services and automotive businesses create an active commercial pocket.
The heart of the visit is the long-standing Milvan Shopping Centre at 9 Milvan Drive, often known locally as Plaza Latina. Its directory and colourful second-floor storefronts hint at the remarkable variety inside: Latin American restaurants and bakeries, travel and communications services, jewellery and fashion, hairstyling and barbering, alterations and other independent enterprises. The plaza has a distinctly Latin American character, but its invitation is for everyone—come hungry, explore the corridors and try somewhere new.
The food is a good reason to linger. Columbus Bakery’s second-floor Milvan location carries Colombian bakery favourites such as empanadas, buñuelos and pan de bono, alongside heartier meals including chicharrón and carnitas. Milvan Bakery is another plaza stop for baked goods. Other online listings point to 727 Mexican Food, Autentica Spanish Foods & Empanadas Bakery, Pupuseria El Buen Sabor and El Comedor Popular Ecuatoriano—an unusually broad tour of Latin American flavours under one roof. Businesses and hours can change, so visitors should confirm details before making a special trip.
Continue east and the character shifts toward vehicles and practical service. Minute Muffler & Brake at 2434 Finch Avenue West is a familiar local stop for exhaust, brake and general automotive work. Nearby, Total Auto Sales at 2430 Finch offers inspected pre-owned cars, trucks and SUVs, along with financing and trade-in services.
There is also a new sign to watch. Typhoon Tire is preparing to open an Emery storefront at 2450 Finch Avenue West, Unit 5A. The company carries passenger, SUV and light-truck tires across all-season, winter, all-weather and performance categories. With fall tire season approaching, the new location will add another useful destination to this established automotive strip. Welcome to Emery, Typhoon Tire.
The opening of Line 6 has made this pocket easier to reach without a car. Get off at Milvan Rumike, give yourself time to look beyond the main signs and support the independent businesses that give the area its flavour and personality. This month’s tour covers the east side of Milvan. Next month, Next Stop Emery crosses the intersection to continue west along Finch Avenue West.
