Emery BIA Job Fair a resounding success

By Sean Delaney

As the publisher of the Emery Village Voice, I am thrilled to discuss the outstanding success of the Emery Village Business Improvement Area (BIA) 2024 Job Fair. Held on April 18th at the Pinecrest Event Centre, just north of the vibrant Emery Village, this event was a showcase of community and opportunity, drawing nearly 1,000 attendees who started lining up two hours before the doors opened at 1 p.m.

The fair was diverse and vibrant, with many companies present. From Delta Bingo to Cameron Landscaping, Costi Employment Services to Eurovac, Metrolinx to Mosaic Transit, Multi-Res Waterproofing Company to New Era Group, Upper Crust to MAXX, Liquidation Marketplace to Delta Bingo Gaming, Miller Knoll to Allendale Fabrics Ltd., there was something for everyone. The businesses were thrilled with the turnout, engaging in meaningful conversations, collecting countless resumes, and immersing themselves in the lively atmosphere.

One of the participants, Danish Hanif, Manager of Human Resources at Allendale, remarked on the event’s organization and outreach, saying, “The use of posters on bus shelters and banners on the streets is a smart way to capture the community’s attention. Moreover, the Emery Village Voice was an excellent tool for engaging our leadership team and getting their support.

“The high turnout at the event is a testament to the effectiveness of the outreach efforts and the interest it generated among community members.”

Melody Fraser and the team from Mosaic Transit were equally enthusiastic about the Job Fair, saying, “We at Mosaic Transit are happy to have taken part in the 2024 Emery Village BIA Job Fair, which attracted a diverse and highly motivated group of job seekers from the local community. This job fair allowed us to quickly connect with potential hires as we continue the work, developing the transit infrastructure along Finch Avenue West.”

Participants were overwhelmingly positive about the fair. Nadia Vargola, HR Director at Upper Crust, expressed her satisfaction.

“The job fair was a wonderful experience. The turnout was impressive, everything was well organized, and everyone was friendly. We met some fantastic job applicants and collected numerous resumes, and we’re hopeful that some of these individuals will join our team soon.”

Andrew Wilde, Quality Assurance Manager at New Era Group, noted the diversity and quality of attendees.

“Today we’ve seen an excellent and diverse group of people coming with a wide range of experience and background. We hope to have some success with some potential candidates coming onto our team.”

Paul Haddad shared his enthusiasm from Delta Bingo.

“Honestly, it’s been such a wonderful experience. We have met many amazing candidates, and we can see them filling our employment needs and growing our company. It’s quite amazing. We have found many potential candidates who would fit nicely into our corporate culture.”

The Emery Village BIA Job Fair’s success is a testament to the community’s collaborative spirit and the dynamic opportunities available here. The event was a shining example of the positive outcomes that can be achieved when businesses and communities unite and become a thriving, supportive atmosphere that benefits everyone involved.

A heartfelt thank you to all the sponsors and participants who made this event a phenomenal success.
